Rapid COVID Antigen Test

Quick Facts:

  • Purpose: Present infection
  • Method: Nasal swab
  • Results: Same day delivered to you electronically in your LabFinder portal
  • Test: Quidel Sofia 2
  • Cost: Self-Pay $125 for the Test-Only
  • FDA Emergency Use Authorization

The rapid COVID test is administered at the point of care by nasal swab by a medical assistant or primary care provider. The rapid antigen test can return results showing whether the patient is infected with acute COVID-19 the same day, as opposed to the 3-5 day estimated wait for most nasal swab tests.

COVID-19 rapid testing reveals only whether the COVID-19 virus is currently present. It does not test whether or not the patient has previously been infected by COVID-19, or whether any other viruses are currently present. The test does not react to the presence of any other seasonal coronaviruses.

You should get a Rapid COVID Test if you:

  • Think they may have COVID-19
  • A NEED for same-day results
  • Need results to get back to work or school.
  • Need results to travel or be accepted into the state or USA.
  • You don’t mind paying cash for the test.

Rapid COVID Swab Test – Molecular NAAT

  • Result in: Same day delivered to you electronically in your LabFinder portal
  • Test: Abbott ID Now

The rapid PCR COVID Test is administered at the point of care by nasal swab by a licensed medical assistant or primary care provider. The results show whether a patient is positive with an acute COVID-19 infection within the same day, as opposed to the typical 3-5 day estimated wait time for most nasal swab tests.

You should get Rapid PCR COVID Test t if you:

  • Think they may have COVID-19
  • A NEED for same-day results
  • Need results to get back to work or school.
  • Need results to travel or be accepted into the state or USA.

COVID PCR Swab Test

Quick Facts:

  • Purpose: Present infection
  • Method: Swab
  • Result in: 2-3 days
  • Test: Hologic, Roche
  • Cost: Covered by most insurances; self-pay $100
  • FDA Emergency Use Authorization

The COVID Molecular PCR Test detects the genetic material of the virus using a lab technique called polymerase chain reaction (PCR). This test can also be called a PCR test. A health care worker will collect fluid from a nasal swab. You will be able to see results in three to five days if sent to an outside lab. The FDA approved certain COVID-19 at-home test kits, available only with doctor approval. The sample is then mailed to a lab for testing. We highly recommend consumers against buying unapproved home tests. This may be inaccurate and unsafe.

You should get COVID Molecular PCR Test if you:

  • Think you may have COVID-19, but there is no rush to get results.
  • No need for immediate results. Willing to wait 2-3 days.
  • Would potentially like insurance to cover the test.

COVID-19 Antibody Test

Quick Facts:

  • Purpose: Past exposure
  • Method: Blood Draw
  • Result in: 3-5 days
  • Test: Beckman Coulter, Roche
  • Cost: Covered by most insurances; self-pay $50
  • FDA Emergency Use Authorization

The COVID-19 Antibody Test is a blood test that provides qualitative and qualitative detection of IgG antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 in individuals suspected of having COVID-19. After infection, the virus antigen stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies that can be detected in the blood.

Combined with the PCR Swab Test (see below), the COVID-19 Antibody Blood Test offers a valuable diagnostic tool in identifying infected patients. According to recent studies, the COVID-19 antibodies are not detectable before 3 days after onset of symptoms or at least 7 to 10 days after infection.

However, antibody tests can detect past infection because virus-specific antibodies can persist in the blood for several weeks/months after the onset of symptoms. Since the exact time of infection is often unknown, combining nasal swab and blood test can improve the accuracy of the COVID-19 diagnosis.

You should get a COVID-19 Antibody Test if you:

  • Think you may have had COVID-19.
  • Wish to see if you could be a blood plasma donor.
  • No need for immediate results. Willing to wait 3-5 days.
  • Would potentially like insurance to cover the test.
