COVID RT-PCR Swab Test

Quick Facts:

  • Purpose: Present infection
  • Method: Swab
  • Result in: 2-3 days
  • Test: Hologic, Roche
  • Cost: Covered by most health insurances or self-pay fee of $100
  • FDA Emergency Use Authorization

*Consultation is covered by most major insurance providers

The COVID RT-PCR Test detects the genetic material of the virus using a lab technique called polymerase chain reaction (PCR). This test can also be called a PCR test. A health care worker will collect fluid from a nasal swab. You will be able to see results in three to five days if sent to an outside lab. The FDA approved certain COVID-19 at-home test kits, available only with doctor approval. The sample is then mailed to a lab for testing. We highly recommend consumers against buying unapproved home tests. This may be inaccurate and unsafe.

You should get COVID RT-PCR Test if you:

  • Think you may have COVID-19, but there is no rush to get results.
  • No need for immediate results. Willing to wait 2-3 days.
  • Would potentially like insurance to cover the test.
