Recent food recalls were due to contamination. Here’s what to avoid.

People are wary of bringing home groceries after a spate of recalls owing to contamination from pebbles, insects, and bacteria. Although the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) monitor food products entering the market, the vast majority of foods are not examined prior to sale. The high number of recalls has been blamed on a lack of oversight, according to some experts. People should be advised to seek medical attention immediately if they feel ill after consuming potentially contaminated foods.
