Colonoscopy is still thought to be the most sensitive way to check for colorectal cancer, but now that there are other tests available and more are on the way, doctors should let patients choose which screening method they want to use by having open conversations with them about the different options, benefits, frequency, costs, risks, and outcomes.
The American College of Physicians (ACP) changed their standards in August 2023 and says that people with average risk who don’t have any symptoms should start getting regular screenings at age 50.
