How To Know If It’s An STD Or UTI

Pain in the genital area can be scary and hard to talk about, but it’s something that should not be ignored.

Two common culprits of discomfort in this part of the body are sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and urinary tract infections (UTIs). The problem is that they can have similar symptoms and are often mistaken for one another.

What are some symptoms found in both STDs and UTIs?

  1. Painful urination or burning sensation
  2. Urinary urgency
  3. Increased frequency of urination
  4. Odorous or cloudy urine
  5. Pelvic pain

How does someone know if they are experiencing an STD or a UTI? Some symptoms more common to STDs include: blisters in the genital area, rash, fever, and pain during intercourse. The only way to know for sure though is to get tested.
