According to four endocrinologists, drinking coffee before breakfast can cause a deep energy dip by noon. You may get a burst of energy because caffeine absorbs more quickly on an empty stomach, but it’ll also wear off fairly quickly.
“In some individuals, especially those who are sensitive to caffeine, drinking coffee without food can also contribute to hunger, irritability or cravings later in the morning, which can further affect energy levels,” says Dr. Victoria Finn, MD, a board-certified physician with Medical Offices of Manhattan and a labfinder.com contributor. “While not everyone experiences these effects, they are extremely common.”
