How Ultra-Processed Foods Are Made Matters as Much as What’s in Them

Emerging research suggests that the health risks of ultra-processed foods may extend beyond their sugar, sodium, and fat content. Researchers found that the industrial processing methods used to manufacture these foods may independently contribute to chronic health conditions, including obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and metabolic syndrome.

According to Dr. Jonathan Jennings, “Ultra-processed foods are clearly a major contributor to some of the most difficult chronic diseases to manage, such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.
