In these situations, shortness of breath can be relieved with time, rest, and sometimes medication. But it is important to know the potential heart attack symptoms for each gender.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Likewise, chest pain can be caused by a variety of factors. Some of these include <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/pain-management\/guide\/whats-causing-my-chest-pain#3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">indigestion, acid reflux, or a muscle strain<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Just like shortness of breath, time and medicine can aid these symptoms (as well as a change in diet)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, if you are having trouble catching your breath even after long periods of rest <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you are experiencing persistent chest pain, it could indicate <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/heart-disease\/warning-signs-heart-attack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a more severe underlying condition<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. See a doctor immediately, as this could be a symptom of heart disease, or worse, a heart attack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Loss or <a href=\"https:\/\/manhattancardiology.com\/shortness-breath-manhattan\/\">shortness of breath<\/a> and chest pain<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are the two most common symptoms of a heart attack. To be more specific, the pain is often a crushing, squeezing or pressure in the chest and the shortness of breath may cause you to feel dizzy, nauseous, or have a low pulse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While these two symptoms are prevalent in most heart attack victims, what you may not know is that there are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicalofficesofmanhattan.com\/es\/services\/heart-stroke-screenings\/\">several other warning signs for a heart attack<\/a>. However, these symptoms differ widely between men and women appearing at a much higher (or lower) rate, depending on your gender. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heart attack symptoms in women<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The good news for women is that they are <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">less likely than men to have heart attacks<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (under the age of 55). However, when they do experience a heart attack, the result is often much worse. This is because women who have heart attacks also often have other conditions, like diabetes, obesity, a history of stroke, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicalofficesofmanhattan.com\/es\/services\/anxiety-depression\/\">depression<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While women are just as likely as men to experience shortness of breath and chest pain, they are also more likely to notice the following symptoms:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feeling of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pressure or discomfort<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the throat (women are 12 times more likely to report)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stomach aches and vomiting<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are nearly 4 times more likely to appear in women<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women experience the sensation of pressure on the chest 7 times more than men do<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It should also be noted that women are more likely to feel <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">back or jaw pain<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, while this is not a symptom, it is worth noting that in clinical studies, women experiencing a heart problem were five times <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">less <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">likely to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">realize that their symptoms were coming from their heart<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heart attack symptoms in men<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Men are at a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/10863872\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">higher risk of heart disease<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is why it\u2019s so important to understand the symptoms. The good news is that men tend to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">deal with heart attacks better than women<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, there are certain symptoms more likely to appear in men than in women (in addition to shortness of breath and chest pain). <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Men experience <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">discomfort in the right side of their chest<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at a rate nearly 5 times higher than women (along with general discomfort nearly 3 times higher)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A dull ache<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is also often unique to men during a heart attack (about 4 times more likely)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Men are also nearly 4 times more likely to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">feel some kind of indigestion accompanying the heart attack<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t hesitate<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are experiencing any of the symptoms above, don\u2019t hesitate to call 911.
