This reaction can range from mild symptoms like hives and itching to severe symptoms like anaphylaxis, a potentially fatal condition that requires immediate medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Allergy Facts:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>85 Million Americans are living with life-threatening food allergies and intolerances.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>377% Increase in treatment of diagnosed anaphylactic reactions to food between 2007 and 2016.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Every 3 Minutes a food allergy reaction sends someone to the emergency room.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Causes a Food Allergy?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is still much to learn about the precise origins of food allergies. Yet, evidence indicates that the immune system, environment, and heredity are all involved. Some people may be genetically predisposed to having food allergies, which means that their genes may increase their risk of doing so. Food allergies may also arise as a result of dietary changes and environmental factors like pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The symptoms of an allergic reaction are brought on by the production of histamine and other substances, which are triggered by these antibodies. A person&#8217;s reaction could worsen when their immune system grows more sensitive to the allergen the more frequently they are exposed to the food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, fish, milk, eggs, wheat, and soy are examples of common food allergens. However, an allergic reaction can occur to any food. It&#8217;s also important to keep in mind that some people may experience cross-reactivity, in which their immune system confuses one food for another because the two share similar proteins. For instance, melons and ragweed both contain proteins that can cause allergic reactions in some people.
